Cibolo has been experiencing continued “rolling blackouts” since yesterday afternoon, affecting all of our residents and utility equipment. While the end of this weather event is near, we still will have several more winter precipitation events to deal with. The NWS is forecasting a freezing rain/wintery mix to start this evening thru to Wednesday morning, affecting our ability to travel safely. It will also continue to place a heavy load on our power infrastructure. The daytime temps should rise into the 40’s on Wednesday and Thursday, 50’s on Friday, and 60’s thru the weekend and into next week.

The weather will drop down to about 4 to 5 degrees in Cibolo tonight. Everything that has melted will begin to refreeze as the sun sets and the temps rapidly drop. Again, travel is highly discouraged! The forecast is also calling for another round of wintery mix (snow/sleet/freezing rain) starting tomorrow afternoon lasting into Wednesday morning. This will probably compound our current conditions. Public Works continues to man equipment around the clock so we can respond quickly to assist the PD and Fire Departments and attempt to manage the conditions in our busiest intersections.

The City of Cibolo experienced 4.5 inches of snow and the record low temperatures. Brown outs are report through out our city and GVEC is working on hard on restoring power.
Please be patient with crews as they are working around the clock to restore lost power, water, and unsafe streets. We are working on sharing information on any additional street closures. Stay home if at all possible

As predicted, the roadways are now freezing up in numerous locations within our community and the entire region. Numerous wrecks are being reported on both IH 35 and IH 10. Our Public Works team is now working around the clock trying to keep the bridges and culverts treated as well as the intersections. Portions of FM 1103 are now frozen over, and we are going to try and get the chat rock applied to these areas. The NWS predicts we should start seeing snow around 6 pm, which will compound the issues. Please stay off the roads unless it is absolutely needed… they are approaching the point of being impassable or are already impassable.

With over 300 miles of roadway in Cibolo, our crews are working around the clock to try to minimize the impact of the ice on all of our roadways. Overpasses and bridges are more likely to be dangerous during icy conditions. We have spread crushed rock/sand at the intersections but have limited resources and this weather may last for days. We also have applied a sand/grit covering on all bridges and culverts in town. Please stay off the roads if travel is not absolutely necessary. If you must go out, please keep these driving tips in mind. Please continue to follow the National Weather Service for more up-to-date weather conditions.
Currently the overpasses on IH-10 are completely iced over. Use extreme caution if you absolutely need to drive in these conditions. Avoid the area if possible.
