[ARCHIVED] Aisin and Toyota agree to make Investment in Texas

Leaders of Aisin are proud to announce the company’s selection of Cibolo, Texas as the site of their new advanced manufacturing plant.

Headquartered in Anjo, Aichi Japan, Aisin A.W. is a leader in automotive technology manufacturing since 1969. The new plant will manufacture automatic transmissions used by the world’s leading automobile manufacturers. In a phased approach, the facility represents significant capital investment and jobs for the region—the early stages of development could mean more than $400 million in investment and approximately 900 new jobs. Production is expected to begin by the fourth quarter of 2021. This will be the company’s second plant in the U.S., the first located in North Carolina.

Automotive and automotive parts manufacturing employs nearly 43,000 people in Texas. The industry continues to grow new investment and employment resulting in Texas-made manufactured products to be exported throughout the U.S. and internationally.  AW Texas welcomes the opportunity to enhance this growing Texas industry and positively affecting the economy of Guadalupe County and Texas as a whole.

“We’ve worked hard to build an environment for economic success in the county. Thanks to groundwork laid by our partners, this project will generate growth well into the future,” said Guadalupe County Judge, Kyle Kutscher. The project also includes a major land purchase and development of key infrastructure. Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative (GVEC) was an instrumental partner in fulfilling the company’s requirements.

“GVEC was pleased to be a part of this ground-breaking investment—it is the direct result of community partners working together to support increased tax base, quality jobs, and future growth potential for the people and communities of the Guadalupe Valley. We are honored AW Texas is now among a host of industry leaders who call our South-Central Texas region home,” said GVEC CEO, Darren Schauer.

“Cibolo has been a strategic location for years, and now the world knows. We could not be happier to welcome an automotive industry leader such as AW Texas,” said Mayor Stosh Boyle of Cibolo, TX. “This facility will be the first of its kind in our community and will offer not only jobs, but careers for all of Guadalupe County.”

A facility of this magnitude can only benefit the larger advanced manufacturing ecosystem in South-Central Texas. Strengthening of the supply chain and skilling of hirable workforce create the ideal conditions for the industry to thrive.

“We have to continue to prepare for the long game in South-Central Texas,” said Tom Long, Chief Development Officer of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation. “This project will have a ripple effect that creates opportunity for years to come.”
